Trash Pickin Transformation

So last Saturday I went for an early run
 &
spotted these in the trash.
Can you believe someone would throw these away?
There were 4 but two had rips up the back.
It was perfect because I really only needed 2.
How lucky was that:)
I had been eyeing similar chairs online
&
at Home Goods.
So I couldn't believe I found these
&
in the trash of all places.
A little trash pickin pays off sometimes!
Take a look.

Two cans of spray paint, a little left over house paint
and a small drop cloth
&
voila!

I was of course excited to get this project done so in hast I didn't take step by step pictures
but it was simple,
I will walk you through it.

1. Unscrew seats
2. Wipe down with damp cloth or tack cloth, sand if needed & spray evenly with paint.
3. Take off the existing fabric on the seats.
I use a flat head screwdriver to get under the staples.
4. Check your batting or foam
&
replace if needed.
5. Lay your wood base from the seats on top of drop cloth.
Use as a template & cut an extra 5"-6" all the way around.
6. Lay on flat surface, find your middle and create your vertical strip with painters tape.
Be sure to press firmly along edges so paint doesn't bleed.
7. Roll on your paint lightly in layers .
I used regular latex house paint(Beach Glass by BM.)
8.Next print out your numbers or letters on heavy card stock
as large or small as you need to create your stencil.
9. Take contact paper and spray the front with spray adhesive(the non-grid side.)
Lay the back of your card stock on the tacky side & press firmly.
Cut out your numbers or letters.
10. Peel off the back of contact paper(the grid side).
11. Place on either side of stripe, press firmly so it sticks to your fabric
&
roll on your paint lightly
(I used Texas Leather by BM.)
12. Let dry & align your pattern to the middle of seat, flip over and staple away.
Pull tight.
13. Screw seat onto chair base.
14. Enjoy your hard work:)!

It is easy, fun & so cheap!
The project cost $15.00 for the two chairs,
the drop cloth was only $4.50, I love that!

  5. They are gorgeous redone like that, Jen. Great trash finds. My youngest son and I like to check out the offerings at big garbage day here. Once a month from May to October neighbours put out all the 'big' stuff days before, that doesn't go on regular garbage biweekly pickup. It is amazing the number of folks out looking.
